A Thought on Titles in the Craft
I had written this a while back on my Eclectic Green Witchery Website - I thought it was a good topic and wanted to repost it. đ
As more individuals find their path into the craft, itâs only natural that new terminology emergesâespecially in a society that often feels compelled to label every facet of identity and experience.
Lately, Iâve seen newcomers refer to themselves with terms like âbaby witch,â âwitchling,â andâbrace yourselfââfetus witch.â That last one, I admit, made me cringe.đ
To put it in perspective: imagine a Master Blacksmith introducing his new apprentice with, âThis is Dave, my baby blacksmith.â It just doesnât convey the dedication or respect the role deserves.
Of course, your practice is yours, and so is your identity. If you want to call yourself âchicken soup,â go for it! Your path is your own, and no one has the authority to define it for you.
HoweverâMy inner Crone speaks, and if your goal is to be taken seriously within the craft, Iâd like to offer some title suggestions that carry a sense of reverence and growth. After all, witchcraft is not a trendâit's a spiritual journey that deserves dignity and intention.
Suggested Titles:
Novice â 0 to 6 months
Apprentice â 1 to 2 years
Adept â 2 to 5 years
Acolyte â 6 to 20 years
Elder â 20 to 30 years
Crone â 30+ years
Remember, we are all witches walking our unique paths. Most of us practice with sincere intentions, doing our best with the knowledge we have.
The most important tenets remain the same: practice safely, show respect to Mother Earth, honor all living beings, and keep an open heart and mind.
Even as Elders & Crones, we are forever students.đđ¤
Blessed be, fellow witches. đ
