This Is NO Way to Live: Finding Our Way Back to Being Human

Can we just be honest for a minute?

People are tired.

Not the kind of tired that a good night's sleep fixes.

I'm talking about the deep-down, soul-level exhaustion that comes from constantly trying to keep up with a world that seems to demand more from us while giving us less in return.

Work more.

Pay more.

Worry more.

Do more.

Buy more.

Save more.

And somehow… still feel like you're falling behind.

For a lot of people, working 40 hours a week isn't enough anymore. Some are working 50, 60, even more hours just trying to keep the lights on, keep food in the refrigerator, keep a roof over their heads, and stay ahead of the next unexpected bill.

And then we wonder why everyone is stressed.

Why anxiety is everywhere.

Why people are exhausted.

Why relationships are strained.

Why we're angry.

Why we're disconnected.

Why so many people feel like they're barely surviving instead of actually living.

Let's talk about "affordable."

Because apparently, we need to.

I saw a recent WMUR report about President Trump saying that prices are coming down.

And I have to admit…In what universe? What timeline?

Because I'm pretty sure it's not the one where I'm standing in the grocery store.

It's not the one where people are looking at their gas gauge and calculating whether they can afford to fill the tank.

It's not the one where someone stands in the checkout line quietly putting things back because the total is higher than they expected.

And it's certainly not the one where working people are putting in 60 hours a week and still wondering how they're going to make everything stretch.

Yes, there are individual prices that have come down. Gasoline did decline in June, for example. Notice I said, "DID". Except they are back up to $4 a gallon. However, the broader cost of living is still elevated, and the latest federal data showed food prices were still 3% higher than a year earlier while energy remained substantially higher year-over-year.

So when people say, "But inflation is coming down," I think we're missing something important.

Slower price increases don't mean things suddenly became affordable.

If something went from $3 to $5 and then stops climbing so quickly, it's still $5. See how that math works?! 😫

And people are feeling that. Every. Single. Day.

We are spending our lives surviving.

And this is the part that bothers me the most.

We get one life. (If we are lucky, because if I have to come back here and do this again, I will cry lol)

One strange, beautiful, messy, magickal experience inside this temporary meat suit.

And we're spending so much of it stressed about money.

Doom scrolling.

Arguing with strangers on the internet.

Watching the news until our nervous systems are fried.

Working ourselves into exhaustion.

Being angry.

Being afraid.

Comparing our lives to everyone else's highlight reel.

Worrying about things we can't control.

And somewhere along the way, we're forgetting to actually 'live.'

We were not put here simply to pay bills and die exhausted.

We were not meant to spend every waking moment chasing the next dollar just to afford the privilege of existing.

We need rest.

We need connection.

We need laughter.

We need nature.

We need quiet.

We need community.

We need moments where nobody is asking us to produce anything.

We need to remember what it feels like to simply "be."

So what do we do?

I'm not going to tell you to "just think positive."

That's bullshit. Positive thinking doesn't pay the electric bill.

And telling someone who is struggling financially to "manifest abundance" without acknowledging their reality isn't particularly helpful either.

Sometimes life is genuinely hard.

Sometimes the system is genuinely exhausting.

Sometimes you're doing everything "right" and you're still struggling.

So perhaps the answer isn't pretending everything is wonderful.

Maybe the answer is learning how to create small pockets of peace inside the chaos.

And thankfully, some of those things don't cost much—or anything at all.

🌲 Go walk in the woods. - THAT'S FREE!

Seriously.

Put the phone down.

Go outside.

Walk beneath the trees.

Touch the bark of an old tree.

Listen to the birds.

Notice the moss.

Feel the earth beneath your feet.

You don't need a spa day.

You don't need an expensive retreat.

You need a few minutes where the only thing demanding your attention is the world around you.

Nature has a way of reminding us that we're part of something much bigger than today's headlines.

🌙 Sit outside at night. - Again, FREE!

Look at the moon.

Watch the stars.

Take a blanket outside and simply breathe.

You don't have to perform a ritual.

You don't have to accomplish anything.

Just exist for a little while.

Let the world spin without you trying to fix it.

📵 Give yourself permission to stop doom scrolling.

You do not have to know everything happening in the world every minute of every day.

Being informed is one thing.

Constantly flooding your nervous system with tragedy, outrage, political arguments, and catastrophe is another.

Take a break.

Turn off the phone.

Put it in another room.

Your nervous system deserves a vacation, too.

🕯️ Create tiny rituals of peace.

Make tea.

Light a candle.

Take a bath.

Pull a tarot or oracle card.

Journal.

Sit quietly for ten minutes.

Put on music that makes your soul feel something.

Stretch.

Breathe.

Read a book.

Cook something from scratch.

Do something with your hands.

These aren't frivolous things.

They are ways of reminding yourself:I am still here.

🧘 Find affordable ways to regulate your nervous system.

You don't necessarily need an expensive wellness retreat to take care of yourself.

Meditation can be free.

Breathing exercises can be free.

Walking can be free.

Stretching can be free.

Sitting beneath a tree can be free.

And community healing doesn't have to cost a fortune either.

At Mystic Market, we believe healing should be accessible to ALL.

That's why we offer our Wednesday evening Meditation & Sound Healing at 5:30 PM for just $11.

One hour.

One evening.

One opportunity to step away from the noise.

To breathe.

To listen.

To allow the vibration of sound to wash over you.

To sit with other human beings who are also trying to navigate this strange, exhausting world.

$11 isn't going to fix the economy.

But maybe that hour can help you remember that you are more than your bills, your job, your political frustration, your responsibilities, and your worries.

Maybe it can give your nervous system a chance to exhale.

And sometimes, that's where we begin.

Find your people.

We are not meant to do this alone.

Call a friend.

Have coffee with someone.

Invite someone over instead of going out.

Share a meal.

Sit around a fire.

Join a community.

Laugh with people.

Cry with people.

Talk about something other than politics, money, and everything that's going wrong.

Human connection is medicine in ways we often forget.

And please… stop measuring your worth by your productivity.

You are not valuable because you worked 60 hours.

You are not more worthy because you made more money.

You don't have to earn your right to rest.

You don't have to justify taking a walk.

You don't have to feel guilty because you sat in the sunshine for twenty minutes.

You are a human being, not a machine.

Machines are designed to produce.

Humans are designed to experience.

To love.

To wonder.

To create.

To connect.

To grow.

To grieve.

To laugh until our stomachs hurt.

To stand beneath a night sky and realize how ridiculously small we are—and somehow how incredibly precious our existence is.

We cannot control everything happening in the world.

We can't control gas prices.

We can't control grocery prices.

We can't control politicians, --even though they tell us "They work for us."🙄

We can't control the economy.

We can't control what someone says on Facebook.

We can't control every bill that lands in our mailbox.

But we can decide that we aren't going to give every ounce of our life to the chaos.

We can choose to put the phone down.

We can choose the woods over the news for an hour.

We can choose community over isolation.

We can choose breathing over reacting.

We can choose kindness when the world is screaming for outrage.

We can choose rest.

We can choose laughter.

We can choose to sit around a table with people we love.

We can choose to make a little magick in the middle of a very unmagickal day.

And maybe that's how we get through this.

Not by pretending everything is okay.

But by remembering that we are still alive.

And this life—this strange, beautiful, frustrating, expensive, ridiculous, miraculous life—is happening right now.

Don't let the chaos steal every minute of it.

Your time here is precious.

Your nervous system is precious.

Your relationships are precious.

Your peace is precious.

And you don't have to wait for the world to become affordable, peaceful, or perfect before you allow yourself to live.

Find the little moments.

The walk.

The laugh.

The cup of tea.

The hug.

The song.

The sunset.

The quiet.

The candle.

The trees.

The sound of a singing bowl.

The person sitting beside you who understands.

Those little moments aren't distractions from life.

They ARE life.

And maybe, right now, choosing to live a little more intentionally is one of the most powerful forms of resistance we have.

Come breathe with us.

If the world feels like too much right now, come spend an hour with us at Mystic Market.

🌙 Wednesdays at 5:30 PM

You deserve that hour
