We spend so much time in front of the computer, classrooms and reading books that we forget there has been a classroom teaching us since the beginning of time. Let me welcome you to nature’s classroom.
The trees, mountains, lakes and everything in between have so much knowledge to offer us. When you take a step back and listen to what nature has to say, you’ll realize she is teaching us lessons everyday. She is our biggest teacher, healer and soulmate.
Since moving here, in the middle of the woods, I have been really connecting with nature in ways I was unable to before.
Lets learn what she has to teach us and how we can use this information to better our lives.
For billions of years Mother Nature’s formula has worked and has created unimaginable beauty and life on this planet known as Earth. Anytime we try to mimic what she does, it either falls apart or requires major adjustments. Nature takes her time. Have you ever watched a tree suffer to become one of the tallest trees in the forest? No.
Trees simply grow from a tiny seed and just be as trees should….Rooting down, reaching up, and giving back to the Earth.
If there’s one thing we can learn from nature, it is that we need to stop rushing through life. Life happens when you learn to relax and enjoy the present moment.
Sure society today tells us to always keep hustling but what are you sacrificing when you do that? I literally hate the “hustle” culture. I hate if you don’t “kill yourself with progress” you are labeled a failure in the hustle culture world.
Everything is occurring in divine timing. Spring does not fight winter for its time to come, it simply arrives when it’s time. The same should go for you, trust the season you’re currently in and allow life to happen.
Numerous studies have shown that spending time in nature is medicine for our souls. Did you know that just walking through a forest can decrease your cortisol levels, lower blood pressure and improve your mental state?
There are so many studies coming out about the healing powers of nature. Doctors are even now prescribing ‘eco therapy’ otherwise known as ‘green therapy.’ But why does nature have so much healing powers?
It’s because when we take the time to step outside, we are reminded of who we truly are. Nature is alive just like us. We aren’t walking into a hospital to take medicine from a man made robot. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not ignoring the fact that some may need medical intervention – that is not what this story is about.
When we decided to step into nature…We are going into nature to heal from the most miraculous healer — mother nature herself.
Mother nature isn’t stressed about the future or what happened in the past. She lives in present moment and that’s why she is so miraculous.
Ever spend time in nature and notice how you act a little differently? Mother nature has a way of reflecting our inner self. When you spend time alone in nature without any distractions you are forced to be with your true self.
Some of the greatest minds went out into nature alone and learned more about themselves than most people. They learned what they truly valued, what they wanted in life and their life purpose.
That hike you just conquered didn’t just give you a beautiful view, it showed you your inner strength. When the hike became difficult did you keep pushing through or give up halfway?
Nature shows us that life is full of ups and downs. It teaches us to flow with life through the river. When life presents you with challenges, learn to flow around the rocks instead of battling the water. The cocoon didn’t fight when it was told to be still. Instead it embraced the darkness and transformed into something even more beautiful.
Look at any plant or animal on this Earth. Each living thing has found its way to adapt to this world. Whether it be a tiny mosquito or a elephant. They have all found a way to adapt to their environment.
Adaptation is a great teacher of harmony. The cactus learns early on that it lives in a desert and needs to store water. Birds don’t fight the cold weather they fly south for winter.
Did you know that bamboo is the most flexible plant on the planet? It bends back and forth with the wind but will never break.
Take away from nature that no matter what environment your in, you can learn how to adapt to your surroundings. Life is going to throw many twists and turns at you. You can choose to let those twist and turns break your spirit or you can learn from the bamboo and bend with the storms of life.
When was the last time you just stopped and literally smelled the roses?
In nature you are able to practice mindfulness and be present like nowhere else on Earth. All of our senses are used when we are immersed in nature. We feel the Earth beneath our feet, hear the sweet sound of birds singing and see the beauty of a sunset.
There is no thinking, worrying or wondering…. You are simply present.
Mindfulness isn’t something you should only practice when sitting on a meditation cushion. While that is one way to practice mindfulness, you can also practice it by going on nature walks.
Take notice of your surroundings.
Listen to how the water flows around the rocks in the river.
Look at how a leaf branches off of a tree.
These are all small things we can do to train our mind to be present and appreciate the art of just being alive.
You are nature and nature is you. Remember that next time you walk through the woods and you’ll understand the lesson nature was trying to teach you.
All of these photos are from my property. Enjoy!
