Many practitioners recommend avoiding direct abdominal or pelvic exposure. Active cancer / tumors People with active cancer or a history of cancer should consult their oncologist first. Red light therapy stimulates cellular activity, which theoretically could affect tumor growth (though evidence is limited). Photosensitive conditions or medications Certain medications (e.g., some antibiotics, chemotherapy agents, retinoids, or blood thinners) can increase light sensitivity. People with lupus or other photosensitive disorders should exercise caution. Open wounds or infections While RLT can support healing, direct application to infected areas may worsen inflammation or spread infection. Epilepsy / seizure disorders Bright pulsed lights or certain frequencies could trigger photosensitive seizures in rare cases. Thyroid disorders Avoid applying high-intensity light directly over the thyroid unless under guidance, as it can theoretically affect thyroid function.
